Description event area

380 years ago, the site of the “Kuckuck” guest house was home to a tavern: the monastery pub endowed with brewing privileges which is today known as the Schulz Restaurant.
After a dispute in 1630, the issue arose as to whether the tavern had been moved too close to the parish garden. The rectory was destroyed in the Thirty Years´ War and is yet to be rebuilt. In 1748 Ludwig Christoph Hölty, the Poet of Spring, was born in the Mariensee rectory.
On 26 January 1859, the “Königlich-Hannoversche Amt” (Royal Hanoverian Office) granted innkeeper Karl Kuckuck permission to run a tavern. In 2010, ownership of the tradition-steeped house changed hands and is no longer property of the Kuckuck family.
The current owners are Iwona Thielking and Adrian Sporys.
The Schulz Restaurant has operated in the house since 1995.
